What motivates you to play football?

I am motivated by my love for the game and the opportunity to win and be successful and also the opportunities it gives me down the road.

Have you had any family members who have played?

My dad played football in high school and my older brother Daniel played in high school and currently plays defensive line at Taylor University.

You have committed to Air Force.  What factors led to your decision?  What were you looking for?

I committed after I visited the academy in June, I got to meet the coaching staff and I love the coaching staff. Also, I got to learn about how Air Force would prepare and help me with life after football, and finally I got to see the amazing facilities that The Academy has to offer. I really looked for a program that I could see myself fitting in to and coaches who already know how that can use me in their offense. I also look for a school with great academics that will put me ahead of others once I get out of college.

What life lessons has football taught you?

Football has taught me that you always have to own up to your mistakes and get better from them. The more you sit and pout about bad plays, or bad events in life, the farther behind you’re going to get. One thing my offensive line coach always reminds us of is DMGB- doesn’t matter get better. It doesn’t matter if we have a good play or a bad play. We still have to get better.

On the Radar: Houston Swan

The Eastern Hancock quarterback had a big night in the Royals’ Friday night win against Northwestern. He thew for 301 yards and six touchdowns, the latter of which is a new school record. The 2022 class has a strong quarterback in Gibson Southern QB Brady Allen, but based on last week’s performance, Swan can certainly be added to the mix.

Henry Hesson

Avon High School

Class Year: 2021

Notes: Very cerebral quarterback with a solid arm, excellent instincts and strength under duress; keeps his eyes down the field, scans and pulls the trigger. Can escape the pocket, elude rushers and buy time with his feet. Was a very accurate passer especially inside the 20 and places the ball where only his receiver can get it. Quick release, clean footwork.  Flashes being a great leader; is a cool customer under pressure, makes good reads and check downs, and has a commanding presence.

What motivates you to play football?

I think what motivates me to play the game of football is just the love and passion for the game.

Do you have any family members who have played?

I don’t have any family members that have played the game.  My dad ran track and played basketball.

You have committed to Central Michigan?  What factors led to your decision?

A few reasons I chose CMU is the coaches; I just felt comfortable with them. I like how they coach and it just felt like a big family and I want to be apart of that family. The campus is very nice and they are also building a brand new football facility.  I am looking to go into business at CMU.

What life lessons has football taught you?

Football has taught me many life lessons, but probably the biggest would be never listen to people who say you can’t do something and tell you that you are not good enough to do something.

What motivates you to play football?

My mother and my older sister keeps me motivated to continue to play the sport.

Do you have any family members who have played the game?

I grew up on the game practically everybody in my family played football. My brother, my pops, and even women in my family played powderpuff.

Have you had any recruiting interest lately?  If so, which teams?  Any scheduled visits?

Yes, mainly from the the MAC schools and 1 Big 10 school (Michigan state) and no I haven’t scheduled any visits just quite yet, I’ve been focusing a lot on high school ball.

What lessons has football taught you?

Football has actually taught me a lot, but the one thing that stands out the most and that I use on a day-to-day basis is my discipline. In order to play football you have to be a very disciplined player on and off the field.

What are you looking for in a school?

What I’m looking for in a school is a second family. I want to go somewhere that makes me feel that I’ve known the people my entire life and can make me feel at home even though I’m away from home.

Game Preview: Avon v. Columbus North

5ab2fa5f8ebe4

Avon and Columbus North will be the nightcap game at the annual Horseshoe Classic on Friday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.  Avon has a group of star-studded recruits, especially in the trenches.  Blake Fisher, a 6’6” 310 junior left tackle, leads the group.  Fisher has committed to Notre Dame.  Left guard Kyle Niese (6’3” 278) has committed to Air Force and tight end Tyce Ferrell has committed to Indiana State   Washington State commit Nathaniel James, brother of Indiana freshman running back Sampson James, is a quick and explosive defensive end. Junior QB Henry Hesson is one of the top 2021 prospects in the state and threw for 1,899 yards and 17 touchdowns last season.

The Orioles will face a stout defense that gave up 10 or fewer points five times last season.  Central Michigan commit Mitchel Collier is a two-way starter at tight end and defensive end. He flashes a quick first step, takes good angles to the backfield and wraps up ballcarriers and is strong at the point of attack.  Landon Robbins is an effective rusher and strong against the run.  Daveed Jolley is an under-the-radar, feisty and tough cornerback who can play press, bust up screens and quickly get downhill.  A key player on offense is Hunter Huser, a 5’10” 185 speedster and legitimate deep-play threat.  He is also a strong return man who could provide sparks for the Bulldogs’ offense to get in strong field position.
