Q/A: Carmel QB Jake McDonald

jake mcdonald
What is your birthday?

I was born on January 17, 2000.

Have you had any recruiting attention lately?

Being apart of the recruiting process is always a blessing and every time I get the opportunity to talk to a school, I look at it as another great opportunity. I will be headed to Miami(Oh) on March 12th for the Junior day there. I am also trying to head out east during the summer to check out Yale, Columbia and Penn.

What motivates you to play the game?

My motivation comes from everyone around me. My family, teammates, coaches and even the entire Carmel community. This city is known as “The City of Champions” and living up to that expectation pushes me day in and day out to continue to represent the Carmel on my chest.

What is your greatest memory so far as a player?

(My) greatest memory is definitely winning the state championship this past year. I grew up watching my brother play and be a part of many state championships, and that was something I have always dreamed of. To have it happen was amazing.

What are you looking for in a school?

Although it may sound very broad, I (want to) attend a school that fits me. A school that I can picture myself spending four years, and getting into the major that I want.

Busy month ahead for Edgewood OL

March will be a busy month for 6’4″ 275 Edgewood offensive lineman Ryan Stuffle.  He will visit Indiana on March 4, Miami-Ohio on March 12 and Bowling Green on March 13, and caught up with IndyScout on his recruiting at the Best of the Midwest Combine last week.

What is your birthday?

August 2, 1999.

What is your greatest memory so far as a high school player?

My greatest memory would probably have to be the pump-up speeches, Bible Scriptures, and prayers from Coach Doering before every game.

What motivates you to play the game?

What motivates me to play football would be the people that doubt me. Many people have doubted me growing up and still do and that is only the fuel to my fire, but what also motivates me would be probably my family and all they’ve done for me in every sport I’ve played in over the years, not just football.  I can never be grateful enough.

Do you have any family members who have played?

My dad was a two-time McDonald’s All-American defensive end in high school at Bloomington South back in the late 80’s.

Have you had any recruiting attention lately?

I currently have no offers but I will be visiting Indiana University March 4 at a spring practice. I’m currently working on setting up more visits with schools right now.

What are you looking for in a school?

I’m looking for a school that provides me with the major that I want which will be something in the law field and a place where I just click with the coaches and the football program as a whole. I would like a school where I can represent myself and grow as a person.

Q/A: Brownsburg DL Antrez Baker

Brownsburg 6’4″ 255 defensive lineman Antrez Baker currently holds offers from Bowling Green and Western Michigan.  Baker visited Indiana this past weekend, and plans to visit Western Michigan over spring break.

The past month has been very good for Branson Deen.

The 6’3” 255 defensive end from Lawrence Central received his first offer from Ball State on January 29. That was quickly followed up with offers from Syracuse, Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Miami-Ohio. He received his first Big 10 offer from Purdue at their junior day last weekend.

In a school, Deen says he is looking for great coach-to-player relationships, player-to player-relationships, and building a relationship with his position coach during the recruiting process.

“I motivate myself to play football,” Deen said. “I want to see how much I get better year after year and see my hard work translate into my play.”

Easily the best memory of high school football so far is winning state my sophomore year and becoming the program with the most state titles in the state.

Growing up I played football because my friends did it.  I realized quickly that I love the game and play at Chatard for the tradition.

Have you had any family members who have played?

Two of my cousins have played football before but that is it for my family.

You have offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Miami-Ohio. Have you had any recruiting attention lately?

I’ve been getting attention from Minnesota as of lately, but other than that not much.

Sir’Zion Dance, who transferred from Pike before last season, took linebacker MVP honors at the Best of the Midwest combine on Monday yet still lacks an offer.  The 6’0″ 210 Ben Davis linebacker tells IndyScout that he has big dreams.

“I have a the talent to play this game at the highest level thanks to God, and just want to be able to go to the league and take care of my mom for doing so much for me,” Dance said.”

Dance said he will visit Central Michigan for their spring game.  He also has visits scheduled for Toledo, Princeton, Eastern Michigan and Penn.

What is your greatest memory so far as a high school player?

Being able to kick it with the boys on Thursday nights and eat team dinners. But I enjoy being able to have a group of guys I can mess around with and become closer to.

What motivates you to play football?

The kids. The kids motivate me to do better, I’m always trying to do something for the kids and show them that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and trust in the man upstairs. And my family day in and day out, they’ve had my back no matter what and I’m forever indebted to them. But mostly God, he blessed me with these talents and I’m just a tool in his much bigger plan, so I can’t be wasting my abilities.

Do you have any family members who have played?

My brother plays at ISU and he’s a huge inspiration to me. He’s taught me almost everything I know about the game. He’s a major athlete that works real hard.

What are you looking for in a school?

In a school, I’m just looking for a great connection with the team and coaches.  I’m looking for somewhere that feels like home to me.

La Lumiere School (LaPorte) TE/DL Josh De St. Jean is fresh off two offers from Toledo and Bowling Green.  He tells IndyScout that he is visiting Minnesota this weekend.

What is your greatest memory so far as a high school player?

For me the greatest memory was no doubt this past season. Going undefeated and winning the GLCAC conference was truly an unforgettable experience. It was the first time we have had this level of success in many years and was truly a remarkable feeling to represent our school in that fashion on the football field. This experience was only made better by my great teammates and coaching staff.

What motivates you to play football?

Primarily my motivation for football is my pure love for the game. I am a big believer in if you do not have a burning passion and desire for something, it is not something you should pursue. For me I am the happiest when on the field. Football is not just something I do, it is a part of who I am.

Do you have any relatives or family members who have played the game?

While I have had cousins that have competed in collegiate sports such as baseball, volleyball, hockey, I am just about the only football player in my family. I have taken four unofficial visits this past fall- Iowa, Princeton, Western Michigan, Ohio. This spring/summer I also plan to visit Harvard, Princeton, Holy Cross along with many other schools.

What are you looking for in a college?

I am looking for a school that can provide elite level academics while also competing at a very high level on the field. It is important to me to get a good education because I realize that in football there are no guarantees. While it is a dream of mine to play football at the highest level possible, I also understand that when my football career is over, I need and want an education to help me in whatever comes next.

Ben Davis DB rising up

y_w54m6e_400x400

Sunday and Monday brought back-to-back offers for Elijah Ball, the first coming from Northern Illinois and the second from Cincinnati.  Expect more to come for the 6’1″ 190 CB out of Ben Davis.

“I’m literally crying,” Ball said on Sunday night after the offer from NIU.  He also recently visited Toledo.

“I’m looking for in a school somewhere (that) I can call home away from home, somewhere that if I left Indiana, I could stay there and not get home sick.”

August 7th 1999.

What is your greatest memory so far as a high school player?

My greatest memory is winning a sectional championship and looking for a bigger next year.

What motivates you to play football?

My motive is for me and my family, and just getting a scholarship is a blessing and will help me and my family out so much. I know it means a lot to my family and me and I wouldn’t have gotten that without my family friends and coaches and I appreciate that.

Do you have any relatives who have played the game?

I will be the first one in my family to play a college sport, let alone D1.

Have you had any recruiting visits or attention lately?  Any scheduled for the future?

I just got offered by Ball State two days ago and I got a visit to Central Michigan on February 18th and a visit to Miami-Ohio February 20th and some other schools in contact.

What are you looking for in a school?

I’m looking for a school that is a family-based program and that treats me well and uses me as an athlete and just a playmaker to help my team win games. A place that’s helps me with school and helps me follow my education and helps me succeed not as just a football player but as a student and as an even better person. Just to make the game fun and be family.
