Daijon Collins, an IndyScout Under-the-Radar selection and top receiver for the Cathedral Irish, committed to Indiana State this week.  The 5’8″ 157 WR is an explosive athlete on the field.  He tells IndyScout that it didn’t take long for him to be impressed with the Sycamores.

“They offered me sometime in April or early May,” he said. “And when I visited the very first time it felt like home, but the number one thing that led to my decision was the coaching staff. I have taken visits to all types of schools but their coaching staff impressed me the most.”

Bryce Gee was one of several players to commit to Indiana State last week.  The 6’3″ 215 tight end is a good-sized target for the Tigers and figures to have a big senior year.  The Sycamores were his only offer.

“After talking with my family we decided it was the best fit for me considering it was close to home and it was a great school,” Gee said. “I love the coaching staff and the atmosphere that they are trying to create.”

Fort Wayne Snider LB Austin France is heading to MAC champion Western Michigan. The 6’3″ 210 linebacker also had offers from Indiana, Indiana State, and Ball State.

“I really love the atmosphere at the campus,” France tells IndyScout.  “It’s a family environment plus they have the same goals and that is to win a championship and that is what we’re gonna do.  After talking to my mom and the rest of my family, I made my decision.”

Ball State lands verbal from Fishers OL

Fishers OL Luke Martin committed to Ball State last week.  The 6’4″ 295 guard for the Tigers also had offers from MAC rivals Central Michigan, Buffalo, and Bowling Green, but tells IndyScout that he ultimately chose Ball State due to the coaching staff.

“Coach Neu and his staff are incredible,” Martin said. “I can tell that they are bringing success to Ball State. It overall just felt right for me.”

Hamilton Southeastern LB Johnny May was one of several Indiana players to commit to Indiana State last week.  May, at 6’0″ 230, is one of the state’s best prospects.

Indiana State has 16 in-state commits, most of whom made their college decision over the past few days.

“It just felt like the right move,” May tells IndyScout. “The coaches made it easy for me, they have tons of energy and make a great environment to play in. I think this program is definitely on the rise and I’m sure others think the same thing. One thing coach Mallory really talked about was how he wanted a lot of Indiana guys on this team and that that’s something I loved to hear and really want to be a part of.”

JD Harris commits to Northern Illinois

Jd Harris
Columbus North defensive back JD Harris committed to Northern Illinois earlier this week.  The 5’11” 165 corner also had offers from Southern Illinois, Indiana State, Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois.
Harris tells IndyScout that his high school coaches told him that it would be a “great place to call home.” He, and his father, visited the campus and said they liked everything.

“The dorms were amazing and their facilities are great but what I really liked was their business building,” Harris said. “It was amazing and I plan on studying business in college. The coaching staff is great and the tradition is amazing and they want to win and that’s exactly what I wanted in a coaching staff.”

Harris said he and his father were sitting in Coach Rod Carey’s office when Carey asked if he had any more questions.

At that moment, Harris said “I knew i wanted to be a Huskie.”

NIU finished third in the MAC West last year with an overall record of 5-7.  They finished second in the conference in 2015.

This post is one of several in a series leading up to the 2017 Indiana high school football season, featuring the top 100 players in the state. Players are not ranked.

Outside of Russ Yeast, no one made a higher impact on the 2016 Indiana high school football season than Warren Central wide receiver David Bell. And his impact is likely to continue in 2017.

As a sophomore in one of the state’s top programs, Bell initially wasn’t going to start in the first week, but coach Jayson West gave him a chance. The 6’2” 185 receiver racked up 1,201 yards and 17 touchdowns off 67 catches against the state’s best competition and quickly became a national recruit. Two of those catches were game-winners against Ben Davis and Cincinnati St. Xavier.

College coaches took note of his athletic ability. Bell currently has 11 offers, which include Louisville, Notre Dame, and six schools from the Big 10.

As an All-State 6’1” 205-pound safety for defending 5A state champion Westfield, Hauser is a hard hitter with superb instincts. He can also play center field in pass coverage, making some acrobatic interceptions.  He also serves as a kick returner on special teams.

Hauser is an Indy Grind 7-on-7 selection and is a top student, with an offer list that includes Ivy-League Colombia. He also comes from an athletic family; he is one of soon-to-be eight kids, he has a brother that plays football, and all five of his sisters are gymnasts. His father also played college basketball at St. Joseph’s College.

“The leadership and social skills developed through playing football will carry me beyond the game,” Hauser tells IndyScout. “I play because I love it, and lastly, I play because I like knocking the (expletive) out of people.”

He recently received offers from Western Illinois, Air Force, and Indiana State.
