Plainfield linebacker and IndyScout Under-the-Radar selection Herschel Blankenship has committed to Western Illinois.  The 6’1″ 220 LB committed last week.

“I committed because I saw a sense of family within not only the players but the coaches as well,” Blankenship tells IndyScout.  “Their core values they preach every day I love and I just want to be apart of it and hopefully spiral their program upward.  And hopefully I can go upward with them.”

Decker commits to Indiana State

RJ Decker
RJ Decker, a 6’4″ 245 TE/DL for 6A Brownsburg, committed to Indiana State.  He is one of several in-state players who gave verbals to the Sycamores two weeks ago.
Decker credited the “family” atmosphere as a primary reason for his decision.  He also held offers from Cornell and Tiffin.

“When I visited the campus the feel and atmosphere were great and the coaches were really cool and very personal when getting to know me,” Decker tells IndyScout. “Plus it is a good football program and this 2018 recruiting class is going to be very special and hopefully do great things to build a new dynasty of ISU football.”

Tim Johns, a 6’3″ 220 linebacker from Greenwood, has committed to Army.  He also held another offer from Indiana State.  Johns said “I knew that’s where I was going” right after his first visit to the academy.

“I couldn’t shy away from the opportunities that West Point had to offer,” Johns tells IndyScout. “I’ve always wanted to join the military, but (during my) freshman year I knew I wanted to play college football, so the idea of the military went out the window. West Point offers me the best of both worlds. I will be able to serve my country at its highest level and play the great game I love at the highest level.”

Getting to Know: Andrean RB Teely Rhyne

What is your birthday?

February 5, 2000

What is your favorite memory as a high school player?

My favorite memory as a high school player is the homecoming game. I ran for 309 yards and 4 touchdowns and the hype I got out of that boosted my confidence as a player.

Do you have any family members who have played the game?

My dad played football in high school.

Have you had any recruiting attention lately?

I haven’t had any official visits but I have visited and met the coaches of South Carolina and Missouri. I am planning to go on an official visit to Iowa in the fall. My most recent offer is Morgan State.

What are you looking for in a school?

In a college I’m looking for academic prestige, how good the campus lifestyle is and the program stability.

Tristan Bailey, a 6’3″ 182 WR for Columbus North, announced his commitment to Illinois State on Sunday.

“I made my decision to commit because I really liked the coaching staff and the way they coached me,” Bailey tells IndyScout. “They actually want to see me be successful. They have an awesome wide receiver program and I think with what I bring to the table I can be very successful there.”

Hauser heading to Air Force

Koby Hauser, a 6’1″ 205 All-State defensive back for defending 5A champion Westfield, announced his commitment to Air Force this week.  A factor into his decision included an interest in serving in the military.

“When the opportunity … arose, I obviously had a strong pull towards it. I met my recruiting coach at Air Force before my sophomore year and have kept in touch ever since.”

Hauser said he went to visit the campus two or three weeks ago and “just absolutely fell in love with it.”

“The opportunities it presents me with are unparalleled. Air Force might not sound as sexy as a Big 10 school but when you consider life after football, it’s hard to deny the opportunities that Air Force presents you with. That degree is going to carry an awful lot of weight in the real world.”
