Getting to Know: Will Syrus, 2018 Fishers WR

Birthday?

My Birthday is 10/28/99.

What is your greatest memory so far as a high school player?

My greatest memory playing high school football so far was our 1st round Sectional victory over our rival. We stayed together for 4 quarters and had contributions from every player.

What motivates you to play the game?

I love playing football because it’s the ultimate team sport that requires 11 different individuals functioning together for one purpose. Football bonds guys together in a way that no other sport offers.

Do you have any family members or relatives who have played before?

My dad played high school ball and my cousin played MLB at HSE and at the University of Saint Francis.

Any recruiting activity or visits lately?

I was invited to visit IU for the Rutgers game on 10/17 and really enjoyed it. I’ve been focused on finishing the season so I don’t have anything else scheduled right now but would like to visit Miami (OH) and a few others at some point.

What are you looking for in a college?

I am looking for a school that will challenge me academically and prepare me for a successful career in business or maybe engineering. If I am lucky enough to continue my playing career in college, I would be most interested in a program with a winning tradition where I would be able to contribute on the field as early as possible.

What is your greatest memory as a high school player?

My greatest memory in my high school career is playing my first varsity game under the lights. Having that feeling for the first time is unforgettable.

What motivates you to play the game?

Three main things come to my mind when I ask myself. First, is the feeling of dominating my opponent & coming out of the game successful. Second, is my family, coaches, and teammates. The satisfaction of making them proud really motivates me to play my best. Lastly, is knowing I have the potential of playing at the next level and earning a scholarship. Knowing I have an opportunity not many other have sets me to get better every day.

Any family members who have played?

My dad played in high school but not any college ball.

Any recruiting visits lately?

I haven’t had any serious ones yet. I do plan on visiting as many programs as possible and attending some camps this next offseason. None scheduled yet though.

What are you looking for in a college?

I’m looking for a school that can see my potential, and push and develop myself to reach my full ability on the field, as well as preparing me to take on the real world after college.

Q/A With Josh Hayes, Purdue commit and Pike CB

When is your birthday?

My Birthday is March 26, 1997

What is your greatest memory as a high school player?

My greatest memory was my first start sophomore year; I caught my first varsity interception.

Do you have any family members or relatives who have played, and what motivates you to play?

My big brothers Frank and Trevor and Shawn motivated me to play football they put that “dog” in me. When I was born I (was) undersized and the doctors said I wasn’t gonna be very tall or mobile so I had to prove them wrong.

What are you most excited about with the Boilers (and college)?

My only offer is Purdue and I feel I should have more, but I mean it is what it’s is. Purdue shows mad love and they welcomed me to the family; everybody else kind of left me alone so I’m just trying to make them regret it. What I look for in college is a program that is going to help me get to where I want to be. Everybody wants to win a national championship and that’s good, but the main focus is to be successful – PERIOD, in the work force or on the field. My main goal is the NFL, and I may not get there, so I need something to fall back on.  The program that provides that is the school I want to attend.

Q/A With Alex Neligh, New Palestine QB

Birthday: April 3rd, 1998.

What has been the greatest memory as a high school player?

My greatest memory as a high school player is the Semi-State game against Columbus East last year. I scored 2 touchdowns, but the best part was the last second field goal that we made to get us over the hump and into the state finals. That is a memory I will never forget, that game means more than all of the awards and things that followed, winning that game was the epitome of my career as a Dragon football player.

What motivates you to play football?

What motivates me to play football is having such a great team around me, and they make it really easy to play and want to be successful. Another thing is everyone that doesn’t believe that I am not a top tier football player, and everyone that thinks what I do isn’t enough to be considered at the top of the state. That is another thing that really drives my performance.

Do you have any relatives or family members who have played the game?

My family has always been around football, and my brother is a freshman at New Pal, and he also plays Quarterback, so someday he will take over this program and I am confident he will make the family proud in that role. My cousin, Noah Grable, played with me last year, and now he is playing at Marian University. Having him last year was a huge motivating factor for me, more than I can ever describe.

Have you had any recruiting visits or offers over the past few weeks? If so, where? Any scheduled in the future?

I have visited University of Indianapolis, Marian University, and Indiana State University. I believe I am going to re-visit both Marian and UIndy in the near future for some of their final home games.

What are you looking for in a college?

I am looking for a college where I can focus on my academic future, and prepare myself for a life of success. Another important aspect for me is to go to a school where they play competitive football, and I would have an opportunity to be competing for a spot on the team, and hopefully someday be lucky enough to play on Saturday’s.

2016 Under-the-Radar: John ER Manns, Bloom. South WR

Bloomington South’s defense gets a lot of credit – and they deserve it.  They also have a strong running game powered by 2018 running back Kristian Pechac.  Last week the team put up 44 points against 6A Perry Meridian, and Manns has emerged as their #1 receiver.  He’s 6’2”, 170, and has been setting school records lately, including number of receptions (12) in a game last week.  He has 47 catches for 704 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season.
