2016 Under-the-Radar: Nick Sink, Hamilton Southeastern

QnT1D86__400x400

Sink’s size (6’4” 285) makes him a legitimate prospect. He exhibits a quick first step and forceful initial punch, as well as quickness to reach and block at the second level. He’s also an excellent finisher who works to the whistle. He has played both guard and center in high school. Note: In the process of writing this post, Nick received offers from Butler and Wayne State.

2016 Under-the-Radar: Jackson Anthrop, Lafayette CC

mhqt5U-F_400x400

Jackson is an effective dual-threat running back and a top player within LCC’s offense. He exhibits elusiveness in space, quickness to change direction, and top-end speed if he finds a crease. He’s also a dangerous punt returner with good vision, and consistently finishes forward for extra yards.   He finished his senior season with 3,218 total yards and 55 total touchdowns (MaxPreps). Jackson’s brother, Danny, was a wide receiver for Purdue.

2016 Under-the-Radar: Tyler Pence, Center Grove CB

Pence (6’1” 185) is an aggressive run-support CB. He can elude blocks on the perimeter, quickly plant, come out of a backpedal, and hit in the open field. He also has enough size to be a legitimate college football player. Although CB is his high school position, he might be a better fit as a safety in college, where he is allowed

Scouting Report: Curtis Blackwell, Norwell OL

Curtis Blackwell

Offensive Lineman

Norwell High School

Grade: 3

The 6’5″ 295-pound offensive lineman from Norwell received his first offer from Ball State yesterday.  Below is an evaluation, along with his Q/A which we published earlier.

Summary: Excellent size and foot speed desired for the position. Looks the part at 6’5,” plays with his feet and hands. Can slide, stay parallel to opposing DL’s and sustain blocks at the corner. Exhibits a quick first step and a nice kick set against edge speed. Quick to snap out of his stance, pull, and strike a moving target in space. Is a nice finisher, consistently exhibits leg drive, and runs his feet on contact. Exhibits strong initial punch and strike timing with his hands; can lock out and play long and with good hand leverage. Very mobile for his size; physical, strikes me as a high effort player. Conclusion: Curtis is a MAC level offensive lineman as a junior who could improve to be a Big 10-quality player as a senior. He has excellent size and foot speed which will serve him well at the college level.

What is your greatest memory as a high school player?

My greatest memory as a high school player was winning the first 4A Sectional championship in our schools history as a sophomore against Columbia City.

I’m motivated to play by my love for the game and the opportunity that I have to go to college and play.

My uncle played at Bowling Green in college, and my Dad and grandpa played high school.

Have you had any recruiting attention lately?

I went to IU, Iowa , Toledo, Miami (OH), Michigan, and I’m going to Purdue on thanksgiving weekend.

What are you looking for in a college

I’m looking most at whether or not the college has the degree that I want and the football staff. I feel like I’m going to be spending four years away from my parents so I really would want to feel at home wherever I go.

2016 Under-the-Radar: Brendan Chappell-Cromartie

Brendan is dangerous in the open field, and is used frequently on sweeps that are designed to get him in space. The South Bend St. Joseph DB/WR exhibits excellent change-of-direction and breakaway speed after the catch. He can work on his own over the middle of the field and exhibits good vision and cutback as a return man. He serves on defense as a safety and corner, where he plays the ball effectively and is his preferred position.

2016 Under-the-Radar: Merrillville QB DJ Wilkins

images

D.J. Wilkins (full name: Demond Wilkins Jr.) had a solid senior season. He finished with 3,357 yards, 26 touchdown passes, and a 61% completion rate, and set school records that will be hard to break. He is also a basketball player; and although he is getting recruited for hoops, he tells me that he is interested in a college football career. The dual-threat quarterback exhibits a quick release, nice arm, and an uncanny ability to elude pressure.
