East Noble QB rising up

qbgh9h0x_400x400

East Noble 2018 quarterback Andrew McCormick is a rising star and is finally on the radar of college coaches around the country.  He has stood out over the past few weeks.  After an opening loss to 6A powerhouse Cathedral, the Knights have won three in a row and scored more than 40 points in each of those wins.  Through four games, McCormick has thrown for 1,092 yards, 13 touchdowns and one interception.  He is already slated to surpass last year’s numbers (1,591, 20 TDs).

“It started slow last year,” McCormick tells IndyScout of his recruiting.  “Ball State was the only school who really seemed too interested.  In the offseason Miami (OH), Purdue, Northwestern, and Iowa got in the picture.  Now there’s those schools plus Navy, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Michigan State, IU and Toledo.”

On tape, McCormick has a quick release, throws the ball with velocity and has zip between the hashes.  He also exhibits good anticipation, touch and timing on deep passes.  He’s also a legit dual-threat (203 yards with three touchdowns) who can extend the play with his legs.

McCormick says his family motivates him to play the game.  His father played football in high school and also played some college ball.  He tells IndyScout that his greatest memory so far as a high school player was beating Belmont to win the NE8 conference in its first year of existence.

McCormick visited Texas Christian last March.  For this season, McCormick said he has visited Purdue and Iowa.  Along with MAC teams, he plans to visit the Hoosiers and Northwestern.

“I want to attend a school with a higher student population,” McCormick said. “I like the feel of bigger schools.  I also want a school that is historically a football school.”

Scouting Report: Ben Davis DE Esezi Otomewo

ntj4zmer_400x400

Otomewo is 6’6” 210, with a long frame and room to grow and add weight in a college program. He plays alongside Indiana commit Leshaun Minor to form, arguably, the state’s best defensive line. Otomewo’s greatest quality is his strength at the point of attack. He is one of the state’s best at setting an edge, using his length and shedding base blocks. He also takes good angles in pursuit to the quarterback, exhibiting good edge speed, a strong counter move and a good motor.

Unlike many other top prospects, Otomewo doesn’t have any family members who have played the game. He tells IndyScout that he is motivated by competing with teammates and his favorite memory so far as a high school player is winning the state championship in 2014. In a college, his goal is to find a place where he feels at home.

He currently has offers from Iowa State, Western Michigan, Toledo, New Mexico, Miami of Ohio, Marshall, Bowling Green, Ball State and Syracuse.

Winning tradition and development of players

2018 Under-the-Radar: Kokomo’s Luke Cameron

gqfywk3r_400x400

Luke Cameron isn’t a household name yet, but the 6’1″ 190-pound safety from Kokomo is off to a good junior season.  The Kokomo defense hasn’t given up more than 14 points in any game so far this season and Cameron is a big reason behind it.  On tape, Cameron exhibits good ball skills.  He’s also a nice downhill hitter who can make plays in space.  He has also served on special teams as a return man and an extra edge rusher on FG and PAT defense.

Luke’s grandfather played for Toledo and his father was an all-state player for Kokomo High School.  He plans to visit IU this weekend.

2017 Under-the-Radar: JT Webb, Elkhart Central

lcrw0lwl_400x400

Elkhart Central 2017 wide receiver JT Webb is having a very strong senior season. He has eclipsed 100 yards receiving in three games. His highest came last week against Brother Rice, where he had 7 catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He also plays defensive back. Last night, against South Bend St. Joseph, Webb had 10 catches, 142 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. On tape, Webb excels after the catch, where most of his production comes from. He tells IndyScout that he has not yet received any recruiting attention.

“I came from nothing,” Webb said. “I play so my mom can have a good future and not want anything.”

Game of the Week: Warren Central v. Ben Davis

m01GU8uH_400x400

What a matchup.

IndyScout’s preseason #2 Warren Central’s offense has been clicking on all cylinders for the past two weeks. The Warriors scored 45 points against North Central and 37 against an undefeated Lawrence Central team last week. The Warriors’ only loss was three weeks ago against Cincinnati Colerain, a top team in the nation – and it was a game they narrowly lost.

Zach Summeier threw 20/31 for 228 yards last week and wide receiver Tristen Tonte caught 14 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. They will face a very talented Ben Davis secondary led by Elijah Ball and Rondell Allen.

Warren Central, too, has a very talented secondary, led by Dijon Anderson and junior DB Julius Brents. They will be a tough matchup for Ben Davis dual-threat QB Reese Taylor, who ran for 108 yards and had 151 through the air against Center Grove last week. Taylor will have his top target, wide receiver and Eastern Kentucky commit Azjai Cooper, back in the lineup. Cooper had 10 catches for 83 yards against Avon.

Both teams are loaded with college talent. Brents and WR David Bell received offers from Cincinnati last week. For Ben Davis, IU commit LaShaun Minor and top recruit Esezi Otomewo form the best defensive line in the state.
